A public memorial service for conservative activist Charlie Kirk will take place on September 21 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The venue, which can seat more than 60,000 people, is expected to draw a large crowd as supporters, political leaders, and family gather to honor his life.
The event, titled “Building a Legacy: Remembering Charlie Kirk,” is being organised by Turning Point USA (TPUSA), the conservative youth organisation Kirk co-founded. Doors will open at 8 a.m. local time, and the memorial program will begin at 11 a.m. The service will be open to the public, with free admission on a first-come, first-served basis.
National Leaders to Attend
Former President Donald Trump has confirmed his attendance at the memorial. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are also expected to take part in the ceremony. Rubio, speaking before a recent trip to Israel, said he would return in time to attend and remembered Kirk as a “great young man” who inspired young conservatives.
Family and Personal Tributes
Arizona held a special place in Kirk’s life. It is where TPUSA’s headquarters are located and where he lived with his wife, Erika Kirk, and their two children.
Erika made her first public remarks after her husband’s death in a livestream from TPUSA’s headquarters. She vowed to keep his legacy alive, saying: “If you thought that my husband’s mission was powerful before, you have no idea what has just been unleashed across this country and the world.”
On social media, she also shared emotional photos and videos from private moments with Kirk, including one where she sat beside his casket.
The Shooting and Investigation
Kirk, who was 31 years old, was killed on September 10 while hosting one of his well-known Prove Me Wrong debates at Utah Valley University. He was taking a question about gun violence and transgender issues when the attack happened.
The suspected gunman, Tyler Robinson, was arrested on September 12 after surrendering to police. He is being held at Utah County Jail without bail and is under special watch. Robinson is expected to make his first court appearance next week, where he will face formal charges.
A Controversial but Influential Voice
Charlie Kirk rose to national prominence as one of the most visible young conservative voices in the United States. Through TPUSA, he focused on mobilising young voters and became an influential figure in former President Trump’s political coalition.
Following his death, Trump announced that Kirk would be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously, calling him “a giant of his generation and a champion of liberty.”
Remembering His Legacy
The upcoming memorial in Arizona is expected to be one of the largest political gatherings in the state this year. For supporters, it will be both a moment of grief and a celebration of a man they credit with energising a new generation of conservative voices.
As TPUSA said in its announcement: “Join us as we honor Charlie’s remarkable life and enduring legacy.”
